Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots - RELEASED

It's here!!!

Although unfortunately, due to a miscalculation on my part, I am not able to put it up on GameJolt today as I had expected when I made the trailer below.  But you can still get it from Itch!

The trailer below shows you lots of little snippets of different parts of the game in action, up to 4 at once, complete with snippets of dialogue from different dialogues in the game.

FINAL testing in progress!!

The final test build is out, we can now do nothing except wait and see what our Beta Test Team come up with.

This is a slightly horrifying time for devs but we will try to hold it together :-D

Release date will be announced once we know how much work will be required based on testing feedback.

Teaser Trailer 2 released

You want to be teased, you know you do.

As for release date... no official date yet but we're aiming for December 2017.  It just depends on what our testers find, if there's something massive and tricky to fix that we've not yet encountered ourselves then obviously that could cause a delay.  I'm hoping that won't happen of course!

A significant milestone

Hey all - well, you know how much I love milestones, right?  Yesterday we reached another one.

Both I and my co-dev have now played the game, feature-complete, from start to finish, and watched the end credits roll.  A very exciting moment for us as developers since it means that we really do have a full, working game with only bits and pieces to add now, including voicing a final few characters (who only have a small number of lines each).  Seeing the thing in its' (almost) finished glory has been very gratifying, with all the hard work really paying off now.

We still have some bits and pieces to put in and of course get the final testing done but we are getting very close.  It's been a long voyage - a bit longer the the original Star Trek's "5 Year Mission" in fact! - but we're almost there.

Stay on target... STAY ON TARGET!!

Quick update on Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots

Just a quick update - we've been quiet for a while but behind the scenes we've made huge strides towards getting the game closer to full release.  The game is essentially 100% feature-complete now and we are adding extra polish and putting in the final voicing before sending to our testers.

Anyone who's followed the game will know that we've been cautious about giving a a definite release date and I'm afraid this is still the case - release date will be announce only once we're absolutely sure we have the actual final product.  However I don't think it's unreasonable to say that the game should be released by Q1 of 2018 at the latest, with the aim if we can of releasing in December 2017.

In the meantime check out a recently released game by some of our indie friends, Legend of Hand.

A couple of small milestones

Really making strides in getting the game to its release state, but still lots to do.  In the meantime, we've reached two thousand downloads of the demo for Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots on the AGS games page.

Also our other Captain Disaster game, Dark Side of the Moon, has finally received an overall rating from the AGS community - happy that people have enjoyed it.

Quick Update on Captain Disaster Development

Basically after feedback from the testers there is a lot of "under the hood" stuff being done to make sure things work really nicely.  Not a lot to actually show you, but we're working really hard on it... well, actually, my co-dev is working incredibly hard on it whilst I'm collating stuff for marketing purposes when the game is released.  The shame of it all is, this work is largely going into things the player will inevitably never notice - if the work wasn't being done in this then you probably would notice and view as a slight negative, possibly a minor annoyance.

Still, it's all going towards making the finished product better.  The work continues...

A little news about GoldPieces (and Captain Disaster, of course)

Nice to see that things are moving again with GoldPieces(GP), the cryptocurrency that sponsored the development of Captain Disaster in: Death Has A Million Stomping Boots.  Among other things it's got new official website, where news will be (hopefully) posted regularly.

In terms of the game itself, we're almost at the point of sending out the initial test version with the complete Act III.  Of course we do a lot of testing ourselves before it even gets to the test team.  We can now play the game from start to finish with all puzzles in a working state.  It takes nearly an hour and a half even knowing exactly what you need to do and skipping all dialogues / cut scenes!

Act III Update

It's been a while so you deserve an update...

Act III of the game is now feature-complete and almost ready for preliminary testing.  Basically a quick test of the puzzle logic and pointing, to make sure there are no logic flaws with the puzzles that we've overlooked, that they're not too easy / difficult, and that the game contains sufficient clues for the player to be able to work things out.  We'd also be looking for things like continuity errors in the dialogue etc.

After that it's polish, polish, polish, add animations, voicing and what have you, and finally get it all thoroughly beta tested.  Exciting times!

While you wait...

I know waiting is frustrating but we'll still be a while finishing off the game, in the meantime for today and tomorrow you can get The Captain Disaster Collection (Kindle ebook) for free.  I'm hoping that the game and ebooks will cross-promote each other to some extent, I could certainly do with all the help promoting that I can get!! :-D

Meanwhile please be assured that the game is coming along very nicely indeed.

Want a sneak peak at the game's final puzzle?

Well, a look at the first draft of its design anyway... before it drives my coder completely made turning it into reality!

What, you didn't think you were going to be able to actually read it and get a head start on solving the puzzles did you?! :-D

Before and After screenshot

Those of you who played the original may not realise that among other things we've updated the graphics for CD's ship Disaster Area.  Here's an example below of what the cockpit looked like in the demo:

This is what it looks like now:

The main changes to some of these locations have been the addition of foreground objects and added shading, although there are other changes too depending on the scene.  For instance here you can see modifications to make the view out of the cockpit window more consistent in style with the rest of the graphics.

That's all for now folks...

Stomping Boots... the story so far

So... current status... Acts I & II are 100% complete and have been tested to within an inch of their lives.  So, we've decided to give you the original game experience - the full game - that we'd always intended to, instead of releasing the game in 2 parts.  Sure it will take us a bit more work but it will be so much more satisfying for you as the player, as well as ourselves as developers, to have the full game as nature intended.

Act III is well in progress, and we're in a better position to move things forward than we have been for a while (in terms of real life issues and what have you).  I'm not putting a release date to this thing just yet, but... watch this space.

If you want to get the game before anyone else once it is released, and get it for free, and also help me out as an indie dev struggling to pay my bills, please consider supporting my Patreon Campaign.

BIG Update Post

Okay folks, this is a biggie.  Acts I & II are 99.99% done, we have just sent off the build to our testers for one final week of testing.  Provided they find nothing major that has somehow been overlooked before, that is Acts I & II done.  Finished.  Complete.  Finito.  Also, other adjectives meaning done.

We have not yet made a final decision on whether to release the game as one complete package, or split it into 2 parts and release those separately.  Obviously if we release the complete game, it will still take us a few months to finish up Act III, but that still might be the best option.  More news on that soon.  Feel free to post a comment if you have a preference as to how the game is released!

From 08:00 (PST), The Captain Disaster Collection will be available for just $1.99 (instead of $2.99) for 48 hours.

Reviews so far:

"Think Red Dwarf meets Hitchhiker's Guide meets all of your other childhood favourites. Highly readable, highly nonsensical, highly recommended."  5 stars

" a sci-fi parody with lots of silly humor, weird characters and wild ideas. In its best moments it evokes the spirit of Douglas Adams... this little ebook with its fast-paced writing style is highly entertaining"  4 stars

"definitely worth checking out if you love sci-fi comedies...  You'll soon find yourself fully immersed and waiting on the edge of your seat for what comes next."  5 stars

Testing phase finished...

... we're hopefully less than a week away from the final Release Candidate people and then, unless something goes horribly wrong, releasing to the wild world very shortly after that.  I will be pre-releasing it to my patrons a certain time before the public release, although I am not giving you specific dates just yet.
